The Maritime Museum of San Diego is constructing a replica of the San Salvador. The original of this ship was Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's flag ship during his 1542 journey of exploration along the California coast. Cabrillo was the first western European to visit the place that is now known as San Diego.
